Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Olivet Baptist Church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Olivet Baptist Church members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as washing the church vehicles, to preparing and collecting food for the homeless. With each and every opportunity to meet the physical need there’s also the opportunity to meet the spiritual need by sharing the message of God’s grace.

Mission Outreach

Olivet Baptist Church is eager to be part of the spread of the Gospel of God’s grace in the world. We are active in sending missionaries and supporting these missionaries with our money and with our prayers.  We encourage all of our members to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they move to a foreign country or live and minister in our own community. For a decade Olivet has hosted an annual summer Vacation Bible School for children in Red Jacket, WV. Members are also involved through mission projects organized by the SouthFork Baptist and NC Baptist Associations. Our latest SFBA cooperative project includes partnering with other area churches to assist in a church plant in Coalwood, West Virginia. Our Olivet team travels to Coalwood to organize service activities every 6 weeks.

Prayer Warriors

Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer is an awesome privilege from God as a result of Christ’s finished work (Heb 4:16). A team of volunteers is praying for the ministry of the Word. Throughout the week, volunteers of our Prayer Warriors team, pray for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. Olivet Baptist Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Need prayer? Want to be a prayer team member?

WMU

Any mission that is church wide falls under WMU.  These mission include our NC State Missions Offering, Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.  We also collect food each October in observance of World Day of Hunger and distribute to local food pantry’s and homeless shelters.  In addition, we collect back pack food items each August for disbursement in September for a local school, collect Christmas gifts for local children in need through our Angel tree Ministry in November and December.  In January we collect coats, sweatshirts and blankets for area homeless families.  We observe and celebrate our WMU Baptist Women’s Day in February with an all women and girls breakfast followed by a motivational speaker.  We end the celebration by having an all Women and Girls Choir at the morning worship service.  Usually in March we offer a soup and sandwich meal following the morning worship service.  This is by donation only.  The proceeds go toward future missions. Our Service Appreciation Meal is in May.  This is for all those currently serving or have served in the Military, Police, Fire and Rescue Departments.  Families of those serving are welcome as well.  This is promoted in our community mail out in addition to area churches being contacted.  A good meal and fellowship environment is provided to all.
